The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast dust haze in parts of northern Nigeria and thunderstorms with rainfall across several parts of the country from Monday, 19 October, to Wednesday, 21 October 2026.
The three-day outlook highlights varying weather conditions across the northern, North-Central and southern regions, with residents advised to take precautions against airborne dust, strong winds and thunderstorms.
Weather forecast for northern Nigeria
NiMet forecast slight dust haze over much of the North, with moderate haze expected in parts of Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi and Kaduna states.
The agency also predicted sunny and hazy conditions across much of the northern region on Tuesday and slight dust haze on Wednesday.
Dust particles in the air may affect people with asthma and other respiratory conditions. Residents should follow official weather updates and take appropriate precautions.
North-Central region: Thunderstorms possible
The forecast indicates sunny skies with patches of clouds during parts of the period, alongside isolated thunderstorms and light rainfall in parts of Kogi, Kwara, Benue and the Federal Capital Territory.
Weather conditions may vary by location, so residents should not assume that the same conditions will occur throughout the region.
Southern states: Rain and thunderstorms expected
NiMet forecast possible light rainfall in parts of Delta and Bayelsa, followed by thunderstorms and moderate rainfall in parts of Ondo, Ogun, Osun and Ekiti, as well as the South-East and South-South.
For Tuesday, thunderstorms with moderate rainfall were forecast across much of the southern region later in the day.
On Wednesday, the agency expected thunderstorms with light rain in parts of Imo, Abia and Anambra, with light rainfall also possible in parts of the South-West and South-South.
These conditions are forecasts and should not be interpreted as confirmation of rainfall in every community.
NiMet’s safety advice
The agency advised residents to take precautions against suspended dust particles, particularly people with respiratory conditions.
NiMet also warned that strong winds could precede thunderstorms. Residents were advised to secure loose objects, avoid taking shelter under tall trees during thunderstorms and disconnect electrical appliances from power sockets when lightning poses a risk.
Airline operators were advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet to support flight planning. <Cite refs={[“turn214320news0”]}/>
